Winter in Kyrgyzstan is different in every region. Relief has an impact to temperature. In gorges and closed basins there is cold air stagnation which causes even more cooling. In Issyk Kul basin the lake make the temperature softer. The average temperature in North Kyrgyzstan is -2-3 degrees Celsius. Winter in South-West of the country is softer and shorter. Winter is severe in Tian-Shan high mountainous basins. The average temperature here in January is -30 degrees Celsius, the absoluter minimum is -53,6 degrees. In winter people love skiing because Kyrgyz mountains are perfect for this kind of activity! There are many ski resorts and they are developing every year. The most popular and biggest one is Karakol ski resort. It has more than 20 kilometres of trails for beginners and professionals.
In spring when the influence of the arctic air polar masses weakens and tropical intensifies, their struggle begins over Kyrgyzstan. At this time there are abrupt changes in the weather, often frosts. Spring in Kyrgyzstan is rainy and short. It comes, as indeed, all seasons, not at the same time in different parts of the country. In Fergana valley spring comes in early March, while in Chui Valley later, by the end of March. In the mountains, every hundred meters uplift, spring is about three days late. In general spring is favorable and smooth. This is a period of flower blossom, buds swell on trees. It is very nice to take photos, especially of apricot blossom and various mountain flowers on the valleys. Summer is the most stable season in Kyrgyzstan. It starts in late May-June. It is hot in South-West of the Republic and, last 5 years even in Chu region, Bishkek city included. In the mountains summer is cooler. During the day it is still quite hot and chilly in the evening. However, summer is the best season to have a tour in Kyrgyzstan. You can visit high mountainous areas, have a wonderful trekking, sleep in yurts, climb the peaks, try delicious fruit and vegetables and just enjoy your holidays!
