Ranges
It is considered to be about 88 great mountain ranges, some of them taking their beginning form the Tien Shan Mountain System. The others are Chon Alai range in the South that belongs to the Pamir System. These are divide Kyrgyzstan into regions - between the North and the South there is the only road connecting them - the road Bishkek-Osh. In length the ranges are from 100 to 300 kilometers. The longest range is Kakshaal of 582 km long. The Kyrgyz Range spreads on the South of Bishkek, is 454 kilometers long. The others are 10 and 40 kilometers wide.
The shady mountains or the Terskey Ala Too range - situated along the South shores of lake Issyk Kul. The sunny mountains or the Kungey Ala Too range - located along the Northern shores of lake Issyk Kul and make up the border of Kyrgyzstan with Kazakhstan. The Kyrgyz range is located near lake Issyk Kul along the Northern length, about 40 km South from Bishkek. The Pamirs are found in the south, and most of the northern is Zaalaiskiy mountain range. Turkestan and Alai are made from the Pamir- Alai Mountains, separating the Pamirs and the Tien Shan. Mountains are snow-capped throughout the year and are called "Ala Too"; in Kyrgyz this phrase transmits the meaning of "colorful bright mountains". During a tour you may witness these great mountains. The line of snow-capped mountains is 3600 meters. As well there are small ridges, like Ak Sheirak, Chatkal, Ferghana, Keolu, Kok Shaal, Talas and Zaalaisky.
